1. Edworthy Park 

This amazing park is situated in the southwest corner of Calgary, in a valley along the Bow River. This Park has a variety of routes and sites to explore, including the Douglas Fir Trail and the Lawrey Gardens.

Depending on the season, trails may be partly snow-covered or muddy. If you want to go exploring, please wear appropriate footwear. Choose shoes that have a decent grip and that you don't mind getting soiled.

With spots for family barbeques, long walks, hikes, biking, this park has something to offer for every occasion and season. The boardwalk hiking trails offer a unique challenge and great view of the city. There are also some areas to sit and lounge by the side of the river. Local Cafes and restaurants nearby make this a great destination to wander around after a lunch date.

In 1883, Thomas Edworthy prospected and acquired the land, he found sandstone on the property and provided it for the construction of numerous Calgary structures. The site was bought by the City of Calgary in 1962, and the park was named after the former owner.

2. North Glenmore Park

West Calgary has easy access to North Glenmore park as well - one of the best in the city!

Enjoy playgrounds, vast expanses of pathways and picnic sites. Nearby Lakeview has some great cafes and lunch options for a day trip to this area.

Enjoy Cross country skiing, tennis courts, BBQ stands and fire pits, seasonal lighting and skating in the winter.

Take part in almost any outdoor activity you can think of. With the Glenmore reservoir, Calgary Canoe club and Calgary Rowing club, this is a great place to try out water sports and enjoy this huge, natural area!


Featuring Calgary’s blue C-Train line, this route takes you from Downtown out to the end of 17th Avenue, accessible to all with its convenient location through the middle of the city. Leave the car at home and go about your day with ease!

3. West LRT

The 8+ kilometer West LRT connects downtown to 69 Street SW. The line's construction began in October 2009 and was finished in December 2012. 

The line serves neighborhoods west of the urban core. Sunalta, Shaganappi Point, Westbrook, 45 Street, Sirocco, and 69 Street are among its six stops. With connecting shuttle bus routes, this LRT line serves most of West Calgary.

With dedicated subway sections and raised platforms, this LRT line is reliable and a great short ride into the city center.

One common way of commuting for Calgarians is to drive to a station and ride in from there. This is a nice happy balance of having access to your car right away after work but also saving on mileage and gas, especially if you work in the city center.

If you are heading out for a night on the town, there are a few ways to take the West LRT to and from popular destinations. Firstly, most attractions in the city (Saddledome, Jack Singer Concert Hall, Jubilee Auditorium, Zoo, Etc) are easily accessed from the C-Train. It's also possible to walk to 17th Avenue from Downtown West Kerby Station. This 8 minute walk can be avoided with a nearby shuttle bus. You can also access Kensington, one of the city's best dining and entertainment districts just North of the river by making an easy transfer onto the Northwest C-Train line.

The only thing that's really missing with Calgary's C-Train is the completion of the Green Line - This project ads 1 more Northwest line and one more Southwest line mainly to add extra capacity for commuters and complete access to the airport. In the meantime, it's possible to access the airport by taking the C-Train downtown and transferring to the 300 BRT line.

Calgary’s most sought-after dining, entertainment and shopping district with the broadest selection of small businesses and boutiques in the entire city. With its ease of access through transportation or easy parking to be found in the Beltline, you will keep finding new things to discover in this district.

4. 17th Avenue High Street

This is Calgary’s Premiere high street shopping, dining and entertainment destination. It is Calgary's place to see, and be seen. There are almost 400 distinct stores, services, and other attractions to discover.

With its vibrant outdoor atmosphere, the 17th Ave Retail and Entertainment District is located between 2nd Street SW and 14th Street SW in the heart of Calgary, near to downtown and Stampede Park, among other attractions. Surrounding highstreets and districts offshoot from here into the Beltline districts making up one of the most interesting areas to explore in the city.

It is one of Calgary's most popular lifestyle attractions because of the combination of boutique stores, fine-dining restaurants, lounges, and inspiring cafés it contains. The Signal Hill Shopping Centre is home to more than 50 diverse businesses and services, including grocery stores, restaurants, fast food restaurants, and a variety of retail outlets, among other things. Southwest Calgary locals like shopping at WestHills Towne Centre because of the large number of retailers and the close access to the more than 40 stores and services offered at WestHills Towne Centre.
